“Creative Writer” Scam

I hate it when people mix my creative writing opportunities with my desires for drug dealing, terrorism, government over throw and marketing scams. It makes it difficult for me to keep my personas straight.

I say this in jest of course, as I have few noticeable deviant tendencies … or at least ones I’m willing to confess to in writing. Still, it brightens my morning to think that some publicly funded Super Security Computer somewhere has likely tagged this posting for a watch list just because of the words in my sentence! No sense avoiding killing several great liberties in one episode!

Anyway, back to my point: I can’t share the details yet but I am likely to engage law enforcement in the near future in regards to a Craigslist creative writing deception that I got pulled into. While I could tell something was weird after I responded, that itself is not telling; the virtual universe of people who want other people’s words is huge, strange, and nearly fully unknowing of what they ask for. As the “relationship” unfolded, the perpetrators began to give away their secrets.

More later about that.

I’ve been a contract writing consultant for 30 years and understand what it means to pull people from a very ill-defined idea (with nearly incomprehensible notes) into a business path that makes mission and dollar sense … but when such folks try to turn me to their evil ways … well, the fun differential changes, and I hate being the victim instead of the mastermind!

I share this nibble just to let you know that my Writer-sploitation idea is catching on. If you have examples or stories, please post something here or send it to me (onepagewriter@gmail.com). I’m expecting to go bigger with this as the truth unfolds.

I am happy with the entire world writing on the InterWebs; it should be a requirement for all who live on the planet. But there is a place for professional writing too and ProPublica cannot do all the fun stuff alone!

NOTE: I’m breaking some of my own rules by not having links. I’ve collected some examples from the past before deciding to do Writer-sploitation. So I am using that. Later, I’ll be a better posting boy! Do appreciate links from you, though. OPW
